Traffic Safety Engineering Intern

The State of Iowa - Executive Branch is offering an internship within the Traffic Operations & Safety Bureau. The selected intern will work on traffic safety engineering projects, including developing and reviewing construction plans, conducting traffic safety data analysis, and participating in project meetings.

Investigate existing highway conditions
Review/develop project plans
Compiling analysis details from existing databases
Query/review video footage of traffic events
Perform traffic analysis
Conduct safety feature review
Using ArcGIS to map safety features
Working with the GIS team to document and maintain records

Qualification

Required

Completion of at least two years in civil, construction, materials, or transportation engineering, or in an engineering management curriculum at an accredited four-year college or university with eligibility for junior status upon return to school

Preferred

Interest in working with ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, Oracle Spatial Database, and/or Microstation
Interest in learning safety engineering, utility engineering, spatial data processing, thematic mapping, and database management
Good communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently as well as on a team
