Laboratory Manager

Charter Research is a highly experienced and quickly growing clinical research company, based in Florida and Illinois, that is looking to add to our team to help us fulfill our mission of discovering future medicines. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and administration of the clinical laboratory, ensuring compliance with safety standards and managing laboratory operations effectively.

Responsibilities

Maintain the clinical laboratory in a manner that is safe and compliant with OSHA standards and applicable local regulations
Ensure that the environmental conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees and patients are protected from physical, chemical, and biological hazards
Assist Principal Investigators, Site Director, and Clinical Research Coordinators with logistics and planning of all study procedures
Initiates quality-control measures and monitors work quality for compliance with laboratory standards
Evaluate existing systems and processes and develop corrective action plans for service/quality trends identified. Initiates changes and monitors improvement
Purchases supplies for the laboratory. Recommends procurement of new laboratory equipment and monitors maintenance/repair needs of existing equipment
Monitor specimen storage to ensure sample integrity
Record and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently
Ensure that an approved procedure manual is available to all personnel responsible for any aspect of the laboratory process
Perform clinical tasks including, but not limited to, vital signs, height and weight, ECG, phlebotomy, specimen packing and shipping
Manage laboratory and protocol related training for study start-up, Site Initiation Visits, protocol amendments, manual amendments, and others
Participate in creating and maintaining staffing plans for the laboratory team, including making recommendations for additional staff, when needed
Assist in identifying and securing, through hiring and interview processes, candidates for open roles in the laboratory department
Perform other duties as assigned
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching and mentoring employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the assigned department(s)

Required

Minimum of 2 years management experience required
Four to six years of experience in a laboratory environment with similar functions

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related field preferred
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certificate preferred
International Air Transport Association (IATA) certificate preferred
OSHA training certificate preferred
Phlebotomy experience a plus
