Occupational Therapist (HUD/VASH) - EDRP Approved

Responsibilities
Completes Veteran functional assessments, including the Veterans for American Ideals (VFAI)
Utilizes appropriate screening and standardized and non-standardized evaluation tools required to appropriately provide and direct the OT care plan in multiple settings
Comprehensively assesses functional and occupational roles and provide direct intervention with varying degrees of complexity to enhance safety, wellness, participation, and performance in all areas of occupation (ADLs, IADLs, work/play, leisure, education, social participation, and resVsleep) of Veterans referred to the HUD-VASH Program
Applies clinically appropriate assessment techniques and treatment interventions to address and evaluate all aspects of the occupational therapy domain: occupations, client factors, performance skills, performance patterns, contexts, and environments
Utilizes standardized and non-standardized assessment methods to communicate information to the interprofessional HUD-VASH team about Veterans' functioning
Educates Veterans, family members, caregivers, students, and other healthcare professionals
Effectively communicates, both orally and in writing, with Veterans, family members, supervisors, caregivers, students, and other healthcare professionals
Establishes and maintains contact with other health care providers involved in Veteran care via written, telephone, and personal communication on a regular basis
Participates in interdisciplinary care planning conferences, as assigned
Performs comprehensive written documentation of evaluations/assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Documentation is consistent with regulatory bodies and accrediting commissions, VHA policy, and facility directives regarding content and timeliness
Proactively communicates with Prosthetics Department to address Veterans' needs for adaptive/durable medical equipment, orthoses, and prosthetics devices, in accordance with facility policy
Documents Veteran functional assessments for PCAFC in a timely manner and communicates information from assessments for timely processing of the application
Conducts data collection as specified or requested by the Supervisor of HUD-VASH for projects related to continuous process improvement for quality assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) for the HUD-VASH program
As assigned, acts as Fieldwork Educator for occupational therapy student(s) from accredited educational programs
As assigned, provides education to Veterans, family members, caregivers, employees, students, and coworkers
Educates multiple service lines within the facility about the Occupational Therapy scope of practice
Continually seeks to improve knowledge and skills by reviewing current literature, conducting in-service training, participation in presentations, and attendance at continuing education programs, especially in their area of expertise
Completes all El Paso VA Health Care System (EPVAHCS) mandatory training in a timely manner, including yearly competencies and Talent Management System (TMS) requirements and HUD-VASH training requirements

The individual must meet at least one of the following requirements below: (a) Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist; (b) Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field; (c) Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy
Individuals must be a graduate of a degree program in occupational therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizations
Candidates must possess a current NBCOT certification as an OT
Candidates must possess a full, current, and unrestricted state license, to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia
