Seasonal Lead Recreation Fee Technician

The National Park Service is seeking a Lead Recreation Fee Technician for a temporary seasonal position at Gateway National Recreation Area. Responsibilities

Collect appropriate fees at park entrance station and/or other visitor contact stations following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds
Operate an electronic cash register, computer or point of sales system, perform opening and closing shift functions, issue receipts, park passes and federal recreation passes
Complete shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift, using journal and receipt tapes, end of shift reports, and a register of voided transactions
Safeguard and secure funds collected and personal accountable stock
Prepare remittance reports and bank deposits for funds collected but may not prepare these reports for any shift for which they collect fees
Pull vaults, canisters, counts and opens registration envelopes
Maintain necessary accountability records
Troubleshoot accounting problems by correcting difficult errors that are unsolvable by others which may involve correction of related reports
Perform reconciliations of credit card transactions and revenue generated through pay.gov and/or national reservation service
Conduct cash register and entrance station audits as required
Provide current, accurate information to visitors concerning the NPS area and other surrounding areas of interest
Explain the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability and hiking trails; distribute maps, brochures and other printed material; inform visitors of potential safety hazards; and provide directions and routes of travel through the park

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record
You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
A uniform allowance will be provided
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work
Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience
To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service
Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Lead Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-06
Examples of specialized experience include, but not limited to: performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties to include operating a point-of-sale system; using an automated financial system to perform accounting and/or financial transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record; resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement
