The NYS Office of General Services is seeking a Professional Engineer 1 (Mechanical) to perform mechanical engineering design and review for various construction projects. The role involves preparing mechanical drawings, coordinating with other technical disciplines, and overseeing consultant design work while managing project schedules and documentation.

Responsibilities
Perform mechanical engineering design or review of plumbing, piping, fire protection systems and heating and ventilating systems for new and rehabilitation construction projects. These projects may involve needed design changes for mechanical systems of existing facilities that can present complex problems in order to be compatible with the plans for existing building structures
Prepare mechanical drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff
Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines
Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules
Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants
Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects
Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress
Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction
Perform a full range of supervisory duties, including reviewing the work of subordinate staff
Qualification
Required
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below
Qualifying degrees: Aerospace Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time experience in mechanical engineering
Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 22 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job
Benefits
Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary = $7,000.
The Office of the General Services (OGS) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs.
Employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period.
