Senior Workers' Compensation Analyst

This analytical role focuses on conducting in-depth analysis of claims and program-level data to provide insights that drive strategic decisions for member employers.

Responsibilities

Conduct advanced analysis of workers’ compensation claims, experience rating, and program- level data to identify trends, risks, cost drivers, and emerging issues
Apply rigorous analytical approaches commonly used in finance, auditing, underwriting, or risk analysis, thoroughly evaluating data, assumptions, inconsistencies, and contributing factors before drawing conclusions
Develop sophisticated account analysis and presentation materials for current and prospective member employers
Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for internal teams and member employers
Serve as a trusted analytical resource to sales staff, leadership, and the claims team, providing context and explanation for claim performance, experience modification, and program outcomes
Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of Washington State Labor & Industries statutes, regulations, and rating rules, and assess their impact on Vigilant’s members
Support service teams with advanced analytical work, special projects, and complex member inquiries
Handle sensitive information with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion
Consistently meet Vigilant’s quality, accuracy, and service expectations
Actively model Vigilant’s values and commitment to exceptional member service
Exercise sound analytical judgment in complex, ambiguous situations while maintaining strong organization, attention to detail, and a high standard of accuracy
Help shape analytical frameworks, methodologies, and best practices
Provide informal mentorship or guidance to team members
Contribute to continuous improvement of Vigilant’s analytical tools and processes

Required

Bachelor's degree in data analytics, data science, finance, economics, risk management, or a related analytical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Demonstrated experience in data analysis or a closely related analytical discipline, such as insurance, claims analysis, auditing, underwriting, financial analysis, risk assessment, or public sector analytics
Strong systems-thinking mindset, with the ability to synthesize multiple data sources, identify patterns and anomalies, and understand cause-and-effect relationships within complex systems
Exceptional intellectual curiosity and analytical persistence; a natural inclination to ask 'why', challenge assumptions, and stay with complex problems until resolved
Ability to learn new subject matter quickly and develop expertise in technical and regulatory environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, practical insights for non-technical audiences and decision-makers
Ability to independently manage complex, ambiguous analytical work while remaining highly organized and committed to accuracy
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel; experience building analytical models, reviewing detailed datasets, and producing structured reports required
Hold or ability to obtain the WWCP designation within 18 months of hire

Preferred

Deep workers' compensation subject-matter expertise is welcome but not required
Experience in adjacent fields such as insurance, finance, risk management, auditing, underwriting, operations, or other highly regulated, data-intensive environments
