Buyer/Planner Expeditor Position

Responsibilities

Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, and/or special tools
Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities
Works closely with Purchasing Manager to negotiate long term supply agreements with selected suppliers
Works with current suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management, negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from the Purchasing Manager
Coordinates as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes/developments between departments and suppliers
Visits suppliers' facilities to assist in the resolution of production, design, quality, and/or delivery problems
Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the company’s ERP and cost accounting systems related to Inventory Control, Planning, and Purchasing
Arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; close coordination with plant engineering to assure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities
Maintains a consistent focus on improvement of the use of the Company’s ERP system to achieve performance and productivity benefits
Continually works toward the reduction of purchased material costs while improving quality and lead times, improving inventory turns and reducing working capital requirements
Performs Other Related Duties As Required
Ensures necessary communication with Production, Planning, Finance, and Suppliers to meet the Company’s business needs
Coordinates with Quality Assurance as necessary to ensure satisfactory Supplier quality performance
Ensures purchased material flow supports the Company’s business plan
Spends about 50% of time working at a desk in a normal office environment
Spends about 30% of time on work away from desk, including going out into shop. Must wear eye protection and any other required personal protective equipment while on the shop floor
Spends about 20% of time travelling to Vendor's facilities and on other Company business

Required

Bachelor's degree with emphasis in business administration, economics, and/or engineering preferred
Five (5) years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience with mechanical / machining buying (castings, forgings, raw materials, molded products, stampings, machining, calibration, machine tools)
Must possess solid analytical skills in forecasting and anticipating production needs and capabilities
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress
Computer literacy applied to scheduling and data management
Strong interpersonal skills requiring the ability to resolve conflicting interests and obtain cooperation
Ability to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with vendors as well as sales contacts within the company
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and internal/external customers
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Job requires sitting at a desk doing normal office work, including phone communications and using a computer
Also involves standing and walking in an office and a manufacturing facility
The candidate should be self-motivated, capable of working independently and be able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, often stressful environment
Must be able to work as part of a team

Preferred

Experience in a DoD environment a plus
