Responsibilities
Assist in management duties with the maintenance of roads and bridges within a particular county, including but not limited to, overseeing maintenance crew activities, and monitoring maintenance projects for compliance with plans, specification and standards
Manages the maintenance contract process
Work includes preparing quantities, inspecting contract work, and processing payments for contracts such as routine mowing, brush management, herbicide operations, concrete repair, and any other contract work performed
Performs weekly reviews of HMMS entries to ensure accuracy of hours worked, work activity measurements, and materials used
Monitors material inventory by entering received materials, verifying that usage is properly deducted, and tracking overrun and underrun quantities
Responsible for personnel matters including Employee Management System (EMPS) reviews, position description, generation and updates, disciplinary actions, and various other personnel procedures
Supervises encroachment permit process and various inspection activities, meeting engineering directives for all roads in the county
Assists the RME in researching data and providing technical assistance in preparing reports for budgets resurfacing, and other short and long term programs
Assists the RME in investigating public complaints, work requests, and damage claims
Recommends corrective action and ensures completion
Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12 hour shifts
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management
Three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience
Demonstrate in the education and/or work experience sections of the application that you at least meet the minimum qualifications noted for the position
Ability to perform physical demands for the essential functions of this position, which involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time
Ability to travel as required
Ability to perform bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling
Ability to drive and walk for extended periods
Ability to tread rough and uneven terrain
Ability to work in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards
Ability to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies
Ability to be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise
