Responsibilities

Evaluate borrower credit reports, income documentation, debts, and assets to assess risk and loan eligibility

Verify accuracy of all information provided in loan applications, including employment and income sources

Review property appraisals and other collateral documentation to confirm loan-to-value ratios and ensure compliance with lending requirements

Make informed underwriting decisions—approve, suspend, or deny loan applications—based on risk assessment and lending guidelines

Complete thorough and accurate reviews of mortgage application packages

Collaborate with loan officers, processors, brokers, and internal departments to resolve documentation issues or application discrepancies

Escalate complex or high-risk applications to management when necessary

Required

High school diploma or equivalent required

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess both qualitative and quantitative data

Solid understanding of Conventional loan and non-conforming guidelines

Working knowledge of federal mortgage regulations and compliance standards (e.g., RESPA, TILA)

Strong customer service and communication skills

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

Strong organizational and time management skills

Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Clear written and verbal communication skills

Self-motivated and dependable

Collaborative team player

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field

Prior experience in mortgage underwriting, banking, or financial services
