Responsibilities
Maintains accountability of patients and awareness of patients’ whereabouts at all times, reporting and documenting appropriately during assigned 12-hour shift
Assist in management of aggressive behavior, utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques
Utilizes safety interventions to apply physical restraints
According to hospital policy, observes, provides care, reports and documents patients’ special precautions
Interacts with patients as a therapeutic function
Observes and reports condition of patients to professional staff
Conducts and facilitates groups in therapeutic activities such as unit meetings and work or activity therapies
Supervises patients engaged in planned daily activities
In accordance with policy, communicates pertinent information regarding patients, employees, visitors, unit personnel, etc. to supervisors or other authorized persons
Participates in shift change report and attends patient staffing conferences and treatment team meetings
Performs routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs, weighing patients, collecting and labeling urine and lab specimens or drug screens
Documents on patients’ charts concerning behavioral observations, vital signs, symptoms, accidents, injuries, etc
Assists or performs all other paraprofessional nursing duties for provisions of patient care
