Director of Event Production (Arts Production Leader)

Responsibilities
Directs, designs, and determines direction of all technical requirements, oversees arrangements and directs operations for all elements of assigned events including lighting, sound, multimedia, television, Information Technology (IT), etc
Directs and manages technical production for University Events including ceremonies, Board of Trustees meetings, and events produced on behalf of the President's Office, Bloomington and Indianapolis Campus Chancellor's Events, IU Foundation, IU Alumni Association, and other University Vice-Presidents. Examples include all commencements on all IU campuses (8 events in May and December), Groundbreaking and Dedication Ceremonies, university media conferences, IU Dance Marathon, stadium or arena concerts and shows, faculty retirement events, award dinners and presentations, Little 500, and capital campaign events
Explores trends and best practices for live events and brings creative solutions to new and existing events at Indiana University
Oversees Assistant Director of Production, other union and non-union production team members, vendors, and contractors
Coordinates production logistics for events, including directing, scheduling, and overseeing labor, managing equipment inventory, creating equipment packing lists, negotiating and executing agreements with vendors and contractors, and coordinating travel schedules and logistics for production team
Establishes budgets, cost estimates, and event specific production schedules
Develops benchmarking standards and feedback processes
Actively participates in all aspects of event planning and convenes technical meetings, initiates site surveys, designs detailed floor plans for events, procures all equipment, is responsible for stagehand labor, etc
Serves as Event Producer for high-profile university events, directing international dignitaries, university leaders, major donors, musicians, event participants, lighting, sound, and television crews, media, etc
Exhibits poise, discretion, creativity and conflict-resolution skill when determining appropriate solutions for issues during live events
Ensures timely and high-quality execution of all technical aspects of each event, and ensures compliance with university policies, venue requirements, and safety regulations. Monitors weather and other life safety considerations
Oversees the artistic concept, execution, and integrity of all productions. Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define performing arts production methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority educational resources projects/initiatives
Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase performing arts production initiatives
Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal
Manages high level assignments and allocation of resources for the area of performing arts productions, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale performing arts productions with wide audiences in support of arts initiatives
Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment
Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry performing arts production standards, technologies, procedures, and metrics; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs
Works collaboratively with other performing arts leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures
Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to performing arts production
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in performing arts or related field
4 years in related performing arts field
1 year of management experience in related performing arts field
Proficient in written and verbal communication skills
