Responsibilities
Lead hands-on engineering tasks to support the rollout of Commvault, currently at ground zero, with deployment formally kicking off in the near future
Configure, administer, and optimize Commvault backup environments across Nutanix, Dell, and cloud platforms (Azure, OCI)
Manage and maintain images, storage configurations, vaulting solutions, and replication strategies (including Commvault DashCopy features)
Provide advanced guidance as architecture evolves; collaborate with team members on design flexibility and best practices
Serve as the primary SME for enterprise backups, ensuring stability, reliability, and performance
Troubleshoot and resolve backup failures, performance bottlenecks, and data recovery requests — including occasional after-hours engagement as backup systems often run overnight
Participate in the on-call rotation after an appropriate ramp-up period. Some managers defer contractor on-call until conversion
Provide support for storage platforms when needed
Work within a 7-person team with mixed backup/storage responsibilities. Roughly ~2 team members focus on backups
Engage as a strong, assertive contributor—someone willing to voice perspectives, recommend approaches, and actively guide discussions. The team needs a confident doer rather than a passive executor
Collaborate closely with engineering peers, project stakeholders, and leadership
Qualification
Required
Strong engineering-level proficiency in Commvault
Deployment experience with Commvault
Administration & ongoing operational management of Commvault
Advanced Commvault concepts (DashCopy, cyber recovery, vaulting, HSX)
Deep understanding of enterprise backup principles
Experience with at least one major platform (e.g., PPDM, Data Domain, Networker, Veritas, Rubrik)
Experience with Dell storage strongly preferred
Exposure to cloud backups across Azure, OCI, or similar platforms
Assertive, confident communicator — able to raise concerns, propose solutions, and challenge when needed
Team-oriented and personable; must gel with an established group
Self-sufficient problem solver with strong ownership mindset
Leadership traits even in a non-lead role; ability to guide others and act as the glue within the backup function
Preferred
Broader storage platform experience (Pure, etc.) acceptable if conceptual understanding is strong
Ability to contribute to both backup and storage sides as needed
