Senior Payroll Accountant

Responsibilities

Process accurate and timely semi-monthly and monthly payroll for employees, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax and wage and hour requirements
Maintain, review, and audit payroll data and records, including employee information, timesheets, earnings, deductions, benefits, and supporting documentation
Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, benefits, and accruals; prepare, post, and review payroll journal entries; investigate and resolve variances
Partner closely with the Finance team to ensure payroll expenses are accurately recorded, properly allocated by location and department, and reflected correctly in financial statements
Manage payroll tax compliance, including reviewing payroll tax filings, assisting with quarter-end and year-end reconciliations, and supporting the resolution of payroll tax notices and inquiries
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including W-2 preparation, payroll audits, and required annual reporting
Resolve employee payroll issues, discrepancies, and inquiries in a timely, professional, and confidential manner while delivering excellent customer service
Run, analyze, and maintain payroll reports, providing insights into payroll trends, variances, and key cost drivers
Maintain strong internal controls over payroll processes and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and audit requirements
Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure accurate setup and ongoing maintenance of employee pay, benefits, deductions, garnishments, and leave balances
Provide training, guidance, and support to employees and managers on payroll-related processes, timelines, and best practices
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, reporting efficiency, and system utilization

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 2 years of payroll experience in a medium- to large-sized organization
Strong working knowledge of payroll systems and software, including ADP Workforce Now (WFN) and Workforce Management (WFM)
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, reconciliations, and reporting tools
Solid understanding of payroll accounting principles, payroll taxes, and federal, state, and local compliance requirements
Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across Finance, HR, and other business partners
Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
