Associate Scientist - Protein Sciences

Responsibilities
Perform production of recombinant monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, and other proteins using mammalian protein expression systems (e.g., CHO, HEK293)
Implement various chromatography methods (affinity, IEX, SEC, HIC, MMC) for the purification of antibodies and other proteins
Conduct comprehensive analyses to assess protein purity and quality using SDS-PAGE, UV/Vis spectroscopy, HPLC tools, and other relevant analytical methods
Operate and maintain AKTA FPLC systems and analytical HPLC instruments to ensure efficient workflow
Address and resolve technical challenges that arise in protein analytical and purification workflows, ensuring high-quality results
Work with the team to develop and implement sophisticated analytical methods (HPLC, BLI, ELISA, etc.) for the characterization of antibodies and other proteins
Document and maintain precise records of laboratory activities using an electronic laboratory notebook (Benchling) and communicate findings clearly through written reports and presentations
Actively stay informed about advancements in protein analytical, production, and purification technologies to continuously enhance methodologies
Provide technical and resourcing support to other functional groups as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree + 6 years with relevant experience, Master's + 3 years in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field
Demonstrated hands-on expertise in mammalian expression systems, including CHO and HEK293
Demonstrated expertise in protein purification, with the ability to independently design and execute purification strategies with minimal supervision; proficiency with ÄKTA chromatography systems is required
Proficiency in chromatography techniques relevant to antibody and bispecific protein production, including Protein A affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography (IEX), and size exclusion chromatography (SEC); experience with mixed-mode chromatography or HIC is a plus
Experience producing complex biologics, such as bispecific antibodies, multispecific proteins, or engineered antibody formats
Solid understanding of protein biochemistry and developability considerations, including purity, aggregation, and stability
Working knowledge of protein analytical techniques, with a strong interest and aptitude to expand skills in this area
Experience using Agilent HPLC systems for protein analytics
Ability to work independently and manage experiments end-to-end, including experimental planning, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation
Strong organizational and data analysis skills, with attention to detail and reproducibility
Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
This position requires on-site work 5 days per week at our office in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts
Preferred
Experience with therapeutic antibody developability assessments is a plus
