Regional Peer Academy PRS & FSP Intern
Richmond Behavioral Health is seeking qualified Peer Recovery Specialist & Family Support Partner Interns to gain experience with their Regional Peer Academy. The role involves providing non-clinical support to individuals and families, assisting them in navigating mental health and substance use systems, and promoting recovery through lived experience.

Responsibilities
Connects individuals to community supports
Provides individual peer support
Assists individuals and families in navigating the mental health/substance use and physical health systems
Helps individuals and families self-advocate with clinical staff and for services in the manner of their choosing
Utilizes the System of Care values and approach to support families to access needed services and supports
Promotes collaboration with families, providers, and other natural supports
Provides outreach and support to caregiver and assist with identifying resources
Provides positive role modeling for caregivers as well as staff
Assists individuals in crisis to be safe and helping them resolve issues relative to the crisis
Cultivates connections with a broad array of services that can assist in recovery
Offers personal insight and education on the process of recovery to teammates
Attends trainings and team meetings as required
Encourages the individual’s active participation in the treatment planning process by role modeling and teaching assertiveness and communication skills
Assists individuals to accurately identify and exercise their rights
Facilitates good communication between individual and clinical staff by providing a richer understanding of individual’s perspective and helping to bridge divergent views between clinical staff and peers
Plans individualized therapeutic recreational activities to enhance social skill development
Assists individuals in obtaining medical, financial, vocational, legal, residential, and other necessary entitlements/services/documentation
Qualification
Required
Utilizes lived experience with a child or young family member who has had mental health challenges
Education received in the DBHDS approved 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training
Ability to connect individuals to community supports
Ability to provide individual peer support
Ability to assist individuals and families in navigating the mental health/substance use and physical health systems
Ability to help individuals and families self-advocate with clinical staff and for services in the manner of their choosing
Utilizes the System of Care values and approach to support families to access needed services and supports
Ability to promote collaboration with families, providers, and other natural supports
Ability to provide outreach and support to caregivers and assist with identifying resources
