Lead Engineer - Electric System Eng

ROCHESTER GAS & ELEC CORP is seeking a Lead Engineer in Electric Systems Engineering. The engineer will lead teams/projects to solve complex problems and is responsible for the design of high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution lines.

Responsibilities

Perform detailed, complex engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles & other viable approaches
Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services
Solves complex Distributed Generation (DG) problems
Utilizes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. (e.g. Customer generators, photovoltaic systems, fuel cells)
Approve, maintain, & understand drawings (e.g., schematics, oneline diagrams)
Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of complex level of difficulty using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline
Serve as SME for generator interconnections
Interpret internal/external business issues and recommend best practices and/or process improvements
Participate in Industry associations
Lead teams, mentor & review engineering work of others
Anticipate & make recommendations with respect to customer & stakeholder needs
Explain difficult concepts & influences others
May be required to make presentations to regulatory/public entities
Lead project teams to complete assigned tasks
Assist in guiding and mentoring engineers in design and engineering development
Manage and provides direction for resources outside of the department/company
Lead others to specify & design systems to resolve complex problems in non-std. situations & develop creative solutions
Independently apply design stds., industry codes, design criteria, guidelines & UI polices/procedures
Possesses in-depth knowledge and interprets processes and standards related to DG
Recommends solutions and best practices where appropriate
Represents Customer Engineering on projects, task forces and studies
Develop business cases & manage projects/processes/initiatives or teams in accordance with applicable UI guidelines
Coordinate phases of engineering for assigned portions of a project/program
Forecast, plan, schedule, monitor, control budget/estimates, construction plans and material orders
Assist in the management of resource allocation including developing forecasts and plans to ensure adequate resources are available
For Lead Engineers: Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers
Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department
Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills
Ability to collaborate across departments
Liaison/direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices
Work independently with little supervision

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
7+ years minimum relevant experience required
Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization)
Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization 'Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.')
Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation
Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others - to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements
Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment - Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements

Proven ability to lead and manage projects

Where appropriate, technical, and operational experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility environment
Knowledge of Overhead Transmission Line: Construction and maintenance standards in accordance with regulatory requirements. Engineering standards and specifications up to 345kV
