Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney - Workers Compensation

Responsibilities

Analyzing complex legal and factual issues
Conducting extensive research
Developing well-reasoned legal strategies
Independently creating and presenting defense strategies on behalf of clients
Preparing complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs with a high degree of autonomy
Collaborating with Claims Partners to achieve optimal outcomes for Hartford insureds
Providing timely and effective communication, legal advice, and support to clients
Maintaining professional diplomacy in interactions with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel
Facilitating the prompt and efficient resolution of cases
Independently preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence in trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings
Researching, drafting, filing, and arguing appellate briefs in reviewing courts
Participating in team huddles
Conducting in-house training for junior associates and claims partners
Engaging in claims file reviews

Required

Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers' Compensation cases
JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California
Trial experience is preferred
Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
Strong legal research and writing skills
Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required
Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers' Compensation cases

Preferred

Trial experience is preferred
Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
