Senior Vice President, Chief Pharmacy Officer

Responsibilities

Creates a cohesive vision for the pharmacy function (inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory retail, specialty and home infusion, post-acute care, and research across the system), with a focus on enterprise-wide growth opportunities
Establishes short and long-term pharmacy strategies for the system, in collaboration with providers, nursing and local pharmacy leaders
Designs and implements key strategic initiatives to build and improve upon all aspects of pharmacy revenue cycle including but not limited to: building cost-effective efficiencies in the areas of systems integration, purchasing power, replenishment and inventory control
Maintains, optimizes and expands the 340B program while continually ensuring regulatory compliance
Assists in identifying and addressing community needs and ways to expand the business through outreach programs and improving patient satisfaction
Develops and implements strategies to add new and expanded sources of revenue, while improving savings
Creates, communicates and ensures execution pharmacy vision and in alignment with system vision
Leads relevant clinical research initiatives across the pharmacy function as appropriate
Administers system-wide formulary management and medication usage review program in conjunction with appropriate key stakeholders
Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for pharmacy, in collaboration with local and system pharmacy leaders, informed by internal and external best practices
Continually reviews and enhances the system wide drug diversion monitoring and prevention program
Works with clinical leaders to ensure pharmacy integration into the appropriate care pathways and assures appropriate use of medications
Oversees the development of budgets, monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics associated with pharmacy spend and revenue
Works closely with facility leaders and system purchasing to evaluate needs and coordinate equipment and drug purchases and upgrades
Enhances and monitors centrally managed pharmacy-related purchasing and service agreements to ensure optimal efficiencies across the organization
Creates network drug shortage risk mitigation strategy to ensure patients have access to needed medications while ensuring continued regulatory compliance and adherence to accreditation standards
Establishes pharmacy policies, regulations, procedures and standards in compliance with Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and DOH licensure requirements
In partnership with appropriate stakeholders, makes decisions regarding the hiring and applicable performance management of facility and system pharmacy department leaders
Trains, coaches, and develops facility and system pharmacy leaders, with continual succession planning in place

Required

Bachelor's degree in pharmacy, an advanced degree in pharmacy (PharmD or Masters of Science) or Master's in Business Administration required
Minimum of 15 years progressive experience in operations and hospital pharmacy management, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership role
In-depth knowledge of the 340B program, including contracted pharmacy relationships, Apexus and HRSA recommendations and requirements
Excellent financial management, delegation, and organizational skills
Sound business acumen focused on maximizing business and financial results
Expertise in regulatory compliance as related to assigned functional areas
Strong executive presence and relationship building skills with proven ability to influence, lead and direct stakeholders in multiple functional areas and across all levels
Proven effective leader known for curiosity, creativity and transformational problem-solving
Demonstrated advancement of pharmacy practices and continuous business development
Proven competency in all components of Microsoft 365
Current New Jersey State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh)
