Telecommunications Design Specialist

The Iowa Department of Transportation is looking for a Telecommunications Design Specialist to lead and motivate employees while contributing to their mission of improving transportation. The role involves overseeing the Radio and Wireless Communications Technologies Section and coordinating with staff to ensure effective operations and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

Researching and developing new radio and other wireless communications Technologies
Continually evaluating all radio communications equipment, tower equipment, buildings, and auxiliary equipment for proper operations
This position acts as the American Association of State and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Frequency Coordinator for the state, responsible for the interpretation and compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations

Required

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field and experience equal to four years of full-time work in one or any combination of: the construction, plant, commercial, or marketing section of a telephone company; or professional electrical engineering design and/or maintenance of communications systems and equipment; or government or private industry where the primary responsibility involved the planning, designing, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of telecommunications systems
Four years of full-time work experience (as described in number one); and a total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience
Driver's license required
Customer-focused, skilled communicator, both in writing and verbally, and able to adapt communication style and methods to suit the audience's needs
Highly adaptable, capable of working effectively under rapidly changing conditions
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
