Retention Assistant

Georgia Highlands College is a multi-campus institution serving over 6,000 students. The Retention Assistant is responsible for researching and executing strategies to enhance student retention and success, working closely with various departments to provide academic support.

Responsibilities

Is responsible for understanding, support, and carrying out the college's mission, vision, and values and compliance with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies
Coordinates with Academic Affairs, faculty and learning to meet supplemental instructional needs and reports on enrollment and retention data
Manages, oversees, trains and reports on the college's Early Alert System
Monitors individual student academic advancement on an ongoing basis and connects students with intervention support services thought the use of early intervention processes
Communicates with faculty and staff to develop and maintain academic support programs that ensure student success
Works with Student Engagement and academic support services, college staff, and faculty to develop and implement retention initiatives and services
Manages hardship withdrawal Applications to collect relevant data from student and submit to Provost's Office
Receives full withdrawal submissions and contacts students to guide them through the process
Communicates with faculty and staff as retention programming and academic support services are developed and aligned
Communicates effectively in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public
Ensures that all activities are conducted within the established College policies, FERPA guidelines, and other applicable laws pertaining to employment and education
Performs assigned responsibilities, other related duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards safely and with minimal supervision

Required

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an associate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for 1 year
Equivalent Combination of Experience and/or Education ' 2 years
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
Knowledge of college and department policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions
Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other applicable laws pertaining to employment and education
Ability to present materials effectively to individual students or groups
Working knowledge of ADA regulations with regards to making referrals and providing necessary accommodations
Ability to plan, organize and implement assigned responsibilities and to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
Ability to participate as a team member
Ability to understand and interpret rules and regulations
Ability to adjust to change
Ability to prepare and analyze financial reports
Ability to handle confidential material judiciously
Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
Ability to use independent judgment and discretion
Ability to manage multiple projects
Skills in budget development and management
Skills in organizing, analyzing, and planning
