Director of Operations
Pinnacle Partners, Inc is seeking a Director of Operations for a rapidly growing aerospace and defense manufacturing environment in Indianapolis, IN. The role involves overseeing day-to-day production activities, managing budgets, and developing long-term operational strategies to support business growth.
Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day operations for a rapidly growing aerospace and defense manufacturing environment, overseeing end-to-end production activities
Provide operational oversight across multiple manufacturing processes, including foundry, powder metallurgy, heat treating, precision machining, and stamping
Manage production operations, budgets, policies, and operational initiatives that support business growth
Develop and implement long-term operational strategies, including staffing plans, capital investment recommendations, and budget planning
Oversee production scheduling, distribution, and on-time delivery performance
Support supply chain coordination and materials management activities
Establish, track, and report operational performance metrics to senior leadership
Serve as a cross-functional connector between department leads, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and effective execution across manufacturing teams
Participate in daily and weekly operational meetings focused on problem-solving, continuous improvement, and hands-on engagement on the plant floor
Drive coordination across departments while respecting department-level ownership of hiring and procurement activities
Lead the introduction of new products, parts, and processes, managing their transition through the manufacturing lifecycle from customer demand to full production
Support a hands-on, fast-paced culture where leaders are expected to adapt, assist where needed, and contribute beyond narrowly defined responsibilities
Help guide operational expansion initiatives, including ramp-up of new production lines and the addition of CNC equipment to increase capacity
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline (Operations, Business, Materials Management, or similar may be considered)
Prior experience in a non-union manufacturing environment, preferably with machining, CNC operations, metallurgy, foundry, casting, or heat-treating processes
Proven experience managing budgets, staffing levels, forecasting, and scrap reduction initiatives
Strong flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment where priorities and initiatives may evolve
Experience with capital projects and lean manufacturing principles; Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus
Understanding of the product development process and its impact on manufacturing operations
Hands-on experience in a machine shop environment, including lathes, mills, and grinders
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, and customer-facing teams
Project management experience with ownership of processes and execution rather than formal project control
Demonstrated “employee-owner” mindset with a proactive, accountable approach to leadership and problem-solving
