Responsibilities

Independently conduct complex 3D and 2D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the head, spine, extremities, and body, ensuring precise image acquisition for diagnostic purposes
Instructs patients by explaining procedures methods, safety precautions, and risks, position them accurately, start intravenous lines (IV) as needed, and produce required images for examinations
Establishes and oversees the maintenance of a quality control program in the MRI Section and participates in the in-service educational program
Independently performs complex computerized axial tomographic scanning of heads or bodies
Responsible for all major and minor equipment held in the MRI Section
Participates with the decision, when invited, on major equipment purchasing to maintain the most advanced standards to provide proper patient care
Identity's image artifacts to enhance quality, collaborate with radiologists to tailor imaging protocols for both standard and complex cases, and promptly notify physicians of significant findings during exams

Required

Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75
Must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education
Must be certified as radiographers in their field
One year of specialized experience which includes performing independent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on patients for diagnostic purposes; conducting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) training to staff members; and maintaining organized records of imaging data
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted
A Personnel Security Investigation is required
Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment
