Family CFO
Santa Barbara Management is a family office designed to enable exceptional builders and their families to thrive. They are seeking a CFO to lead financial operations and client delivery functions, responsible for delivering tax and accounting services while managing a team of experts.
Responsibilities
Own the delivery of comprehensive tax and accounting services for clients, including annual filings, quarterly estimates, liquidity planning, cash management, and bill pay operations
Reduce "drag" across clients' balance sheets through superior structuring and elimination of excess costs (tax drag, inefficient cash management, etc.)
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on complex financial matters, demonstrating exceptional communication and organizational skills
Maintain the highest standards of accuracy and timeliness in all client deliverables
Build, manage, and grow a high-performing team of functional experts (accountants, tax specialists, client service associates, etc.)
Create scalable processes and systems that enable the team to operate efficiently without constant oversight
Foster a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and client-first thinking
Develop talent and create career progression paths for team members
Design and implement process improvements that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency
Identify opportunities to enhance client value through creative structuring and financial optimization
Collaborate cross-functionally with investment management, estate planning, and lifestyle services teams
Maintain deep expertise in evolving tax regulations and accounting best practices
Qualification
Required
10+ years of progressive leadership experience, with a proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams
CPA strongly preferred; deep expertise in tax, transactional accounting, and financial operations
Advanced financial modeling and Excel skills, with experience in complex financial structuring and optimization
Demonstrated ability to design, document, and scale efficient operational processes with extreme attention to detail
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with extensive client-facing experience
High tempo of delivery with a bias toward action and extreme proactivity - you see problems or opportunities and immediately jump on them
Genuine commitment to delivering outstanding client experiences with a 'no task is too small' mentality
Ability to run operations autonomously while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service
You thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced environment and believe incremental progress creates momentum
You understand that we are nothing without our clients and are committed to delivering 'Unbounded Client Delight'
Strong relationship-building skills with both clients and internal teams, with the ability to read between the lines
You maintain a 'glass half full' mentality and are comfortable navigating ambiguity in a startup environment
Preferred
Experience with family offices, wealth management, RIAs, or high-net-worth client services
Track record in fast-growing organizations or startup environments
Familiarity with investment funds, private equity, or alternative investments
CFA, JD, or additional professional certifications are a plus
