Specialist Technician (Rapid Prototyping)

The University of Bristol - School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience is seeking a Specialist Technician in Rapid Prototyping to support cutting-edge research and facilitate learning for students and researchers. The role involves providing technical expertise in rapid prototyping, operating and maintaining specialist equipment, and assisting staff and students in achieving their project goals.

Responsibilities

Provide technical expertise in rapid prototyping and related technologies, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production of prototypes and components
Operating, servicing, maintenance and calibration of specialist equipment, including CNC and manual machine tools, hand tools
Keeping accurate records and drawings; analysing and interpreting project requirements, iterating design/implementation as required
Diagnose and rectify complex problems from first principles
Provide assistance, induction to staff and students to undertake activities and tasks in your areas of expertise
Offer guidance on design for manufacture, material selection, and prototyping methods

Required

Substantial experience in engineering design and manufacture applied from first principles to prototyping and pre-production work
Technical expertise in rapid prototyping and related technologies
Experience in operating, servicing, maintenance and calibration of specialist equipment, including CNC and manual machine tools, hand tools
Ability to keep accurate records and drawings; analyse and interpret project requirements, iterating design/implementation as required
Ability to diagnose and rectify complex problems from first principles
Experience in providing assistance and induction to staff and students to undertake activities and tasks in areas of expertise
Ability to offer guidance on design for manufacture, material selection, and prototyping methods
Enjoy working with both specialists and lay staff to achieve practical and pragmatic solutions
Ability to develop strong working relationships with customers (students, researchers and staff) to enable sensible and achievable solutions that meet research and teaching needs
Commitment to providing a quality, high-precision and efficient service across the faculty
