Lab Manager (Teradyne, San Jose, CA)

Responsibilities
Supervise, train, and mentor lab technicians, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of projects
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching for skill development
Oversee the maintenance and functionality of all internal systems, test cells, and test equipment
Perform and document routine system checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration activities
Ensure compliance with diagnostic standards and resolve system failures promptly through effective troubleshooting and debugging
Manage machine shop operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and proper equipment usage
Develop and deliver training programs for new users before granting machine shop access
Plan and implement internal systems to support new product introductions (NPI)
Collaborate with facilities for infrastructure upgrades, including power drops, water lines, and HVAC requirements
Allocate lab space efficiently for new systems or test cells and manage real estate utilization
Decommission obsolete or unused units in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations
Maintain accurate records of calibration, diagnostics, maintenance, and equipment lifecycle
Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards across all lab operations
Support audits and inspections by providing required documentation and demonstrating compliance
Identify opportunities to improve lab efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize workflows
Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend upgrades to enhance testing capabilities
Develop and implement best practices for lab management and equipment utilization
Qualification
Required
B.S. in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field
5+ years of experience in lab operations, system maintenance, or test environments, or related experience
Proven experience supervising technical staff and managing lab operations
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills for complex systems
Knowledge of calibration standards, diagnostic tools, and preventive maintenance practices
Preferred
Familiarity with facility coordination for utilities (power, water, HVAC)
Experience with new product introduction (NPI) and lab setup for prototype testing
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in documentation tools and lab management software
Experience with Teradyne– Nextest systems (Mag5, MagVU, Mag7) is highly desirable
