The intern will work on high-impact projects involving AI and machine learning, driving the project from data engineering to deep learning algorithm development.

Responsibilities
You will work on a high-impact scientific project about vision foundation models using inhouse large dataset
You own the project. You design and execute the project from data engineering to deep learning algorithm development to analyze the outcomes in clinical context
You apply cutting-edge technologies or explore novel methodologies in AI/ML to help clinical development at Genentech
Qualification
Required
Must be pursuing a Master's degree (currently enrolled)
Must have attained a Master's degree no more than 2 years ago
Must be pursuing a PhD (currently enrolled)
Required Majors: Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Biotechnology or related fields
Deep learning and/or foundation models applied to images / videos, software development
Preferred
Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills and team player; comfortable explaining complex technical topics to non-technical audiences

Intermediate programming ability in Python and familiarity with deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras
Experience with software development workflow using git and GitHub/GitLab
Experience with cloud/scientific computing environments (e.g. high-performance computing clusters)
Experience with self-supervised learning and foundation models is preferred
Familiarity with clinical data and medical images is a plus, ophthalmology disease area is a further plus
Experienced problem solver capable of seeking help when needed
Passion for learning and curious about drug development in the pharmaceutical biotechnology industry
