Senior Bioinformatics Scientist

Responsibilities

Lead the development and optimization of GT Molecular’s proprietary bioinformatics pipelines for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis
Architect and implement advanced algorithms and machine learning models to analyze NGS genomic data, enhancing outcomes for cancer patients through biomarker discovery and predictive diagnostics
Develop and deploy AI/ML models (e.g., using deep learning for predictive diagnostics) to integrate clinical data with clinical outcomes, accelerating biomarker discovery in oncology
Design scalable, end-to-end data pipelines integrating heterogeneous data sources, including clinical metadata, assay systems, and omics data (e.g., scRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics)
Oversee the creation of custom scripts, web applications, and dashboards for data visualization and analysis using tools like Python Dash or R Shiny
Translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications, manage cross-functional teams, and mentor junior scientists and engineers
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GCP, GCLP) in data workflows for clinical trial applications
Collaborate on strategic partnerships and contribute to enterprise-level data infrastructure, including data lakes and warehouses
Interpret complex biological results at the molecular and cellular levels, integrating in-silico and experimental data for oncology-focused insights
Communicate scientific findings to interdisciplinary teams, C-suite, and external partners, while driving innovation in assay development and ML deployment

Required

PhD or MS plus 10-15+ years of equivalent experience in a quantitative field (e.g., computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, biomedical engineering, or related)
Proven track record in leading bioinformatics and data science initiatives in biotech or pharma environments, including team management and stakeholder engagement
Extensive expertise in algorithmic approaches for genomic data analysis, including NGS (DNAseq, RNAseq, WGS/WES, scRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics), variant detection, and tools/databases like Seurat, BAM/VCF, and AlphaFold
Deep understanding of oncology genomics, targeted NGS, and integration of multi-omics data for diagnostics and biomarker identification
Advanced proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Python and R, including AI/ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn), for complex data analysis, ML model development in bioinformatics applications, ETL/ELT workflows, and experience in explainable AI (XAI) for regulated environments
Strong experience with Linux/Unix, cloud environments (e.g., AWS services like S3, EC2, Lambda, Redshift), and big data tools (e.g., Apache Spark, Snowflake, Databricks)
Solid grasp of statistical principles, machine learning methods (classification, regression, deep learning), and best practices for high-throughput data in regulated settings
Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and maintain bioinformatic pipelines using workflow managers like Snakemake or Nextflow
Experience conceiving and implementing custom algorithms for large-scale datasets, including feature selection and predictive modeling
Excellent communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration, with a history of mentoring and leading projects independently

Preferred

Leadership in software development, including version control (Git/GitHub), CI/CD (Jenkins), containerization (Docker), and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
Hands-on experience with mainstream molecular biology processes (e.g., NGS library prep, automation systems like Hamilton/Agilent, PCR/qPCR, liquid biopsy)
Proficiency in object-oriented programming (OOP) in Python, Java, or similar, with experience in building reusable code libraries and APIs
UI/UX design expertise for data visualization tools (e.g., Plotly, Tableau, Spotfire) and custom dashboards
Familiarity with databases (SQL, NoSQL like MongoDB/DynamoDB) and clinical data systems (LIMS, EDC)
Creative problem-solving with mathematical rigor, respecting real-world data imperfections, and a track record of publications or patents in bioinformatics/oncology
Experience in compliant environments, including computer system validation and SOP development
