Motor Applications Engineer

ebm-papst Inc. is looking for a Motor Applications Engineer responsible for electric motor applications, primarily brushless DC motors. The role involves serving as a primary technical resource, conducting tests, and collaborating with various departments to ensure product quality and compliance.

Responsibilities

Serve as primary technical resource for motor and motor drive topics in US, including power, torque, temperature, and efficiency. Motors are mainly single-phase and 3-phase with voltages up to 575 VAC and up to 8 KW
Walk a new motor design/application through the verification and regulatory testing processes through to production-ready. Have a good working knowledge of FCC and UL standards applicable to motor products
Work closely with the electrical department to test, verify, and improve motor electronics designs
Size motors and calculate winding layouts for new fan products
Execute and analyze results of functional tests of motors and fans, such as torque-speed and temperature rise tests, and other specialized measurements
Maintain and operate motor test benches
Interface with ebm-papst Germany Motor and Electronics R&D to localize product design knowledge. May involve travel to Germany for training
Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of all products sold by ebm-papst Inc
Visit customers and suppliers for support and testing as required
Work with application engineers, sales, and customers to address complex field issues
Work with quality and manufacturing departments on localization efforts for motor components
On occasion, may be expected to lift about 50 lbs
Perform all other duties as assigned

Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or other closely related field of study. Concentration in Electromagnetics ideal but not mandatory
3 years minimum working experience in motor development/applications with exposure to brushless DC motors
