Responsibilities

Foster an inclusive and relationship-rich environment where student staff and interns are challenged and supported toward their goals. Collaborate within a shared supervision model with the Community Programs Coordinator, Food Security Programs Manager, Peer-Aid Coordinator, and Resource Literacy Coordinator on mentoring, coaching, evaluating, and performance improvement
Hold 1×1 meetings with peer navigators, complete evaluations, recommend merit raises, and participate in coaching/progressive discipline
Co-create, monitor, and assess Academic Improvement Plans for student staff
Host team meetings for student leaders
Support peer-to-peer conversations in real time, fielding questions as needed, and supporting learning
Student project management is a meaningful part of this position. Vet and meter student projects to steward within program boundaries, support project management skills including timeline and budget creation, receive progress reports, and support plans as projects unfold
Supervise work related to social media, offsite events, informational booth tabling, public presentations, outreach for federal benefits programs Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Oregon Health Plan (OHP), and student-facing promotional campaigns
Develop and maintain a right-sized, student-facing outreach strategy that expands the impact of the Basic Needs Center team. As needed, develop outreach strategies for targeted subpopulations, often collaboratively
Collaborate with the BNC director and team on messaging and roll-out strategies for new programs, changes, and special OSU Foundation and development-related activities
Work with the Food Security Programs Manager to develop and refine the next best use of student meal fund program funding, launch of redesigned efforts, and ongoing messaging regarding the program. Develop and utilize regular survey efforts to provide education opportunities through targeted outreach on basic needs skill areas
Collaborate with the Food Security Programs Manager and Resource Literacy Coordinator to increase OSU student participation in SNAP and OHP benefits programs, including support for student-led workshops, sign-up events, and education
In partnership with the Community Programs Coordinator, support BNC Welcome Party planning and messaging
Supervise and collaborate with the BNC social media student team, aligning content and outreach strategy with the department mission, organizational frame, division standards, and university policies
Advise and mentor the BNC Student Advisory Board in the student fee-setting process in collaboration with the BNC Director
Develop and strive to meet learning outcomes for programs. Utilize feedback and assessment to enhance programs over time
Support BNC participation in key campus events such as student orientation programming, including content creation, session facilitation, coordination of tabling materials and staffing, etc
Serve as a liaison to campus organizations, including those partnering with the BNC and the Student Affairs division’s communications team
Support volunteer recruitment and relevant events or other tasks connected to volunteer engagement
Lead or support recruitment and hiring processes
Coach, approve, and purchase program and activity supplies
Manage the BNC’s online presence, including the department website, Google Business profile, and timely updates on closures or adjusted hours
Coordinate BNC outreach materials and supplies in conjunction with Peer Navigators
Maintain photo release records and the department’s photo and media library
Coordinate branded materials, including peer navigator team shirts and promotional items
Manage relevant email communications
Ensure compliance with university and other relevant policies
Participate in departmental meetings for professional staff and management team
Serve as a subject matter expert in outreach and promotion. Develop, implement, and assess training for student and professional staff centered on event planning, advertising strategies, informational booths, promotional messaging to different audiences, multimedia design (graphics, photography, video, etc.), and project management
Provide everyday coaching and mentoring of student staff in the areas described above and support their development of educational materials for outreach
Ensure compliance with established OSU and division branding guidelines, exercising critical thinking about interpretation of guidelines
Plan broader training and leadership development experiences for student staff, frequently in collaboration with internal and external university staff. Connect training goals to relevant theories and literature (examples: Asset-Based Community Development, Problem-Based Learning, Adaptive Leadership Development, Mutual Aid, Efficacy Development, and Peer Support best practices)
Provide expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders about the BNC programming model
Steward the BNC employee laptop fleet, including maintenance and requests for tech support
Serve as the primary point of contact for the central IT team that supports the BNC, coordinating requests and liaising between departments
Collaborate on program-wide development, including staff training, strategic planning, and assessment efforts
Provide cross-coverage of center supervision/programs for other professional staff roles
Participate in relevant program and division meetings

Required

Bachelor's degree in business, communication, public relations, advertising, media studies, or other degree relevant to the position
Experience and skill leading, coordinating and/or directing the work of other staff, volunteers, or students. Experience providing feedback (including improvement and growth-oriented feedback) on other's work. Skill with workplace interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to motivate others through educational and developmental approaches to the work that supports and stretches individuals to excel
Experience developing and implementing successful and collaborative outreach strategies and campaigns
Superior collaboration skills; experience successfully collaborating in a team environment with diverse individuals. Motivated to mentor, teach, and train others in your craft and technical skillsets
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proficiency in website management, for example, platforms such as Drupal and SharePoint sites
Demonstrated experience in social media analytics, strategy, and media production
Excellent situational judgement and use of professional interpersonal boundaries
Commitment to promoting an inclusive work environment

Preferred

Experience leading a team or supervising others in outreach campaign efforts
Experience planning and coordinating events, including logistics, promotion, and participant engagement
Skilled in the use of digital design software such as Adobe Creative Suite
Photography skills
Experience working in mixed-class or working-class environments
Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating training programs or other experience implementing intentional approaches to continuous quality improvement
