Distribution Services - Area Lead

WSP is currently seeking an Area Lead to provide managerial support to their Distribution Department. The successful candidate will oversee the Hawaii team, manage workload coordination, and support the hiring and development of staff while ensuring high-quality standards in project work.

Responsibilities

Overall Leadership
Foster adoption of WSP’s Culture, Values, and Mission
Identify and support the development of the next generation of leaders
Promote the corporate structure and corporate activity
Innovation and implementation of supporting tools and procedures with the goal of overall process improvement
Support the execution of the Knowledge Management Program (KMP)
Preparation and execution of the business plan strategy for the Department addressing the overall strategy of the Business Unit
Participate in production work while maintaining a utilization of approximately 60%
Assist with the planning and coordination of staff assignments, project resourcing, department workload, and workflows
Ensure proper QA/QC of all work issued from the Department
Participate in Go – No Go calls on new project opportunities as appropriate
Marketing support and proposal preparation in the form of work plan development, scheduling, and budgeting for RFP responses
Make yourself available to interface with strategic, large, or important local clients as they interact with your staff. This could be via project-related conference calls, luncheons, etc
Establish, maintain, and grow relationships with current and potential distribution clients
Create an environment of respect within the Department and the Business Unit and support high employee morale
Conduct reoccurring meetings with staff to discuss current issues
Prepare and administer employee reviews utilizing a variety of self-evaluation and peer reviews
Perform Peer and Career Progression reviews, collating peer feedback for the review process
Monitor employee performance, set goals and expectations, and provide coaching and feedback to improve individual and team performance
Impart appropriate Corporate, Division, and Business Unit information to staff as communicated by the DM, RM or BUD
Review timecards and expenses each week for assigned personnel
Provide the initial level of triage for personal/personnel problems and administrative requests (vacation requests, leave of absence, etc.)
Implementation and execution of staff training per the business plan
Learn and develop personal skills related to the successful management of people. Invest this same training and development in senior staff members
Develop and execute the annual recruiting plan for junior, mid-level and senior staff. Involve existing staff members to lead college recruiting efforts for interns, co-ops and entry-level positions
Seek and capitalize on opportunities to build rapport and share work with other offices
Actively participate in Business Unit meetings
Collaborate with other Business Unit and Divisions at WSP
Develop relationships with internal project managers and key clients to secure a steady workflow

Required

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant leadership and/or industry experience
Minimum of one (1) year working experience at WSP
Experience in 2.4kV through 35kV distribution design and GO-95, GO-126, NEC, and NESC standards
High emotional intelligence (self-awareness, motivation, empathy, social skills, self-regulation)
Strong listening skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent teamwork and collaborative skills
Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred

BSEE or BSEET degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option or equivalent experience
Professional Engineer is a plus
Three (3) years or more of working experience at WSP
Experience collaborating work across offices
Experience in leading a project team
Experience in managing/supervising personnel
