They are hiring a Lead Java Engineer to architect and develop backend services for the My HealtheVet platform, ensuring integration with key VA systems and mentoring other engineers.

Responsibilities
Serve as the technical backbone of one of the VA’s most mission-critical digital platforms
Architect and drive the development of robust, secure, and scalable backend services that enable Veterans to manage their healthcare
Lead backend design decisions, mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and ensure integration with key VA systems such as VistA and Cerner
Champion best practices in API design, system reliability, and cloud infrastructure
Qualification
Required
6+ years of backend development experience with deep expertise in Java, including Spring Boot
Proven ability to architect and build scalable microservices and RESTful APIs that integrate with large enterprise systems
Experience exposing metrics and adding meaningful logging, to facilitate troubleshooting in highly integrated environments
Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Redis
Experience working in cloud environments, preferably AWS GovCloud or hybrid cloud deployments
Excellent leadership and collaboration skills, with a track record of mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and influencing technical direction in Agile/Scrum or SAFe teams
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. In alignment with federal contract requirements, certain roles may also require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal background investigation and/or a security clearance
Bachelor's Degree
