Children's Village Activities Coordinator

Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and facilitate social, educational, and recreational activities for youth residents
Coordinate activities that support engagement, personal growth, and a positive campus environment
Collaborate with facility staff and external partners to ensure activities are safe and aligned with program objectives
Use County and department-specific software to track activities and complete related assignments
Develops, organizes, and implements structured programs such as art, music, sports, games, fitness, and educational workshops that align with residents’ interests and treatment goals
Designs and implements diverse recreational, cultural, educational, and wellness programs suited to the needs, ages, and developmental levels of residents
Encourages resident participation, promotes teamwork and cooperation, and models positive social interactions consistent with program expectations
Develops and maintains the monthly activity calendar, reserves spaces, ensures appropriate staffing levels, and manages supplies and materials for all scheduled activities
Supervise activities to maintain resident and staff safety; tailors programs to accommodate individual abilities and restrictions; monitors for and report behavioral, emotional, or physical changes to supervisors
Partners with program staff, case managers, teachers, volunteers, and community agencies to enhance programming and facilitate special events, workshops, and community outreach projects
Maintains accurate records of attendance, program outcomes, and incident reports. Provides feedback and data to inform program improvements
Inventories, organizes, and maintains equipment and supplies related to activities. Ensures proper care and cleanliness of all recreational areas and materials
Participates in staff meetings, in-services training, and program planning sessions
Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments
Qualification
Required
Possess an Associate's degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university with a major in Recreation, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a closely related field
Have had at least two (2) years of full-time experience working with youth in a residential, educational, or recreational setting; OR
Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development (G.E.D.) Test
Have had at least four (4) years of full-time experience working with youth in a residential, educational, or recreational setting
Must obtain and maintain valid certificates in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and CPI Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
Must submit to immunizations as requested by the Department of Health & Human Services and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest x-rays at County expense
Before beginning employment, candidates will be required to provide Children's Village with documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect
Applicants being considered for hire will be asked to sign a form authorizing Children's Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the privacy act of 1974
Applicants For Positions At Children's Village Will Not Be Considered If They Have Been Convicted Of Either Of The Following: Child Abuse or Neglect; A felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within the 10 years immediately preceding the date of hire
Preferred
Experience in program planning is preferred
Considerable interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse youth populations
Considerable understanding of trauma-informed and positive youth development practices
Considerable ability to organize multiple activities and adapt to dynamic group needs
Considerable ability to display creativity in designing engaging, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate programming
Strong knowledge of safety and crisis response protocols within a secure facility
Considerable ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, residents, families and community partners
Reasonable ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative in analyzing problems and recommending solutions
Reasonable ability to utilize personal computer programs and other data processing capabilities. Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software
Reasonable ability to perform a variety of assigned tasks and meet deadlines
