Responsibilities
From information in the form of sketches, notes, or verbal instructions from engineers, assembles and integrates pertinent information into the work assignment
Determines the adequacy of selected items of design to satisfy significantly complex tasks
Develops complete drawings of intricate and complex structural items of reinforced concrete, steel, wood, gravity structures, foundation systems, rubble mound breakwaters and the like to satisfy project needs
Assembles individual sketches, material schedules, field data, site visit, and design data from a variety of sources to produce drawings, reports, and schedules
Performs complex computations to demonstrate adequacy of structural design details developed for use on drawings using accepted standard practices and procedures
Prepares structural layouts in preliminary or final form utilizing analytical information prepared either by self or by others
Develops advanced 3-dimensional models of structural features using CADD and/or BIM software and assists others in using these models for plan presentation
Incorporates structural details that are necessary but not included in furnished data and sketches
Makes necessary engineering computations to establish lines, grades, dimensions, and locations
Determines views and layouts necessary to show the necessary structural details
Reviews completed drawings made by others from an engineering viewpoint, indicates necessary changes and, occasionally, personally make such changes
Develops preliminary and final details of drawings, or portions of design analysis for a variety of structural engineering features of flood risk management, civil works and/or military projects for preliminary planning, feasibility studies, design memoranda, contract plans, navigation channels and structure and inspection of completed projects
Plans, coordinates, conducts, or directs teams in the preparation of small and large complex drawing packages using the CADD and/or BIM system relating to structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering fields within the District
Responsible for the coordination, direction, control, and accomplishment of quality standards for development of engineering projects using current Corps of Engineers CADD and/or BIM standards and procedures
Develops and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the capabilities, operating characteristics, and functions of a variety of software packages for the CADD system to use the District's central(host) computer system for file management, plot generation, 3-D Modeling, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and data management applications
Uses CADD for preliminary layouts, sketches, 3-D modeling; and for the preparation of final drawings depicting the structural elements for flood risk management and civil works and/or military projects to USACE current standards
Maintains records of each drawing to include an up-to-date working index of drawings and symbols
Using office automation software, assists in the preparation of support documents relating to technical studies or specification and design submissions using drafts of preliminary designs or completed design of a similar type as a guide; computes quantity estimates of material; and/or checks for accuracy of completed quantity computations
Prepares and formats database files
Performs engineering computations and compiles results for engineers
Maintains up-to-date records for the section; assists and trains lower graded technicians and engineers in applying CADD and/or BIM principles, as needed
Prepares draft technical correspondences, standards, and procedures as necessary using the District CADD and/or BIM computer software and system
Performs periodic inspections, shop inspections, field inspections, and completes related correspondence and reports
Independently reviews and coordinates Contract Technical Submittals, including shop drawings and as built for accuracy and conformance with contract requirements
Gathers vendor information required for review of complex technical submittals
Confers with A-E representatives and other Government agencies as necessary to coordinate final project CADD and/or BIM work with requirements of the District, including reviewing A-E work is in conformance with established technical criteria and USACE standards, responding to their inquiries regarding specification, criteria, and precedents
