Responsibilities

Provides supervision and management to the Office of Finance, Office of Student Financial Services, Integrated Technology Services, and the Office of Facilities & Maintenance, including delegating necessary administrative and operational authority to direct-report management subordinates. Ensures supervisors and staff can effectively perform their job duties. Sets clear goals and expectations for supervisors, ensures supervisors do the same for their staff, tracks progress of supervisors, provides them feedback including annual evaluations, and addresses performance and moral issues on the team. Approves vacation time, monthly timecards and time off for supervisors. Conducts annual performance evaluations of supervisors (and ensures supervisors do the same for staff in the department). Responsible for hiring, training, termination and other personnel related duties within division. Support and encourage the professional development of the financial management team as well as the completion of mandatory university training
Leads the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the University’s operating and capital budgets. Actively engage in budget preparation, review, and monitoring with divisions and departments. Oversee and participate directly in accounting, financial reporting, cash management, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial systems. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Formulates, prepares and implements strategic policies and procedures for financial and budgetary planning, capital-project financial planning, risk management, in accordance with direction from the President, the Board of Trustees and consistent with the University’s strategic plan
Develops policies, procedures and internal control methods designed to safeguard university assets (e.g. cash balances, investments, intellectual property and physical plant)
Observes, compares, or monitors data and financial activities to determine compliance with prescribed operating procedures/policies, safety standards and to ensure consistency in accounting for assets and adequacy of controls over university assets
Analyzes financial statements to detect and report areas of concern to the President
Coordinates annual financial audit activities with the external auditors, university staff and the Board of Trustees Audit Committee and prepares annual financial statements and notes for inclusion in the annual audited financial report
Plans and develops investment portfolios for available cash balances in conjunction with the University Treasurer and Board of Trustees
Serves as staff liaison to Board Finance Committee, and Board Audit Committee. Regularly sets agendas in conjunction with the committee chairs. Provides reports and information to the committees as requested
Coordinates and supervises communication of financial information within the Saint Martin’s community, the community-at-large and to all other constituents
Ensures that mandatory university reports are completed and filed in a timely manner (e.g. the annual IPEDS reports, CUPA surveys, tax returns (990, 990T, 5500’s) etc.)
Serve as a committee member on University and Board of Trustees committees including the preparation of board reports. Represents the University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students and their parents, and/or the general public
Comply with University policies, state and federal regulations
Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing all other related duties as assigned

Required

Master's degree in a Business, Finance, or related discipline from an accredited college or university
Administrative experience with budgeting and financial planning in an environment of limited resources
Experience supervising staff and building successful teams
Knowledge of Catholic Intellectual Tradition, including •Ex corde Ecclesiae• and Catholic social teaching
Practicing member of the Roman Catholic faith
Successfully pass a background check

Preferred

Certified Public Accountant or Certified Managerial Account
Higher education or non-profit experience
