Advanced Mechanical Engineer - Weight Handling Engineer

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is dedicated to ensuring the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors and training U.S. Navy personnel. They are seeking an Advanced Mechanical Engineer to provide engineering support for maintenance and inspection of weight handling equipment, including cranes and rigging systems.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work with other engineers, inspection personnel, millwrights, and supervisors to maintain, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and perform repairs to cranes and other weight handling equipment
Components that will be worked on include: braking systems (electro-mechanical), electrical systems (including variable frequency drives), and mechanical power transmission systems (gearboxes, drive shafts, motors, couplings)
Team with engineers to support the procurement and upgrade of electric overhead cranes and other weight handling equipment
Develop rigging plans and follow the execution of rigging evolutions for complex, unique, or expensive items

Required

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field; or Currently an Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company
All candidates must be U.S. citizens
Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter
FMP is a government contractor and maintains a drug free workplace and workforce
All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707
