Permit Technician
The City of Gulfport is seeking a Permit Technician to perform office support and administrative duties within the Urban Development Department. The role involves processing applications for building permits, handling customer inquiries, and maintaining records, all while providing excellent customer service.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Receives and processes applications and plans for building and related permits
Answers telephone calls and responds to customer requests and inquiries
Identifies, researches, and resolves customer issues using computerized systems
Receives inspection requests
Handles customer inquiries or refers them to the appropriate individual or department
Enters inspection requests, contractor licensing information, and permit data into the MUNIS building software system
Collects and records fees and payments
Files building permit and inspection records
Performs mathematical calculations manually or using a calculator in accordance with established procedures
Accepts, processes, and balances cash drawer and reconciles daily billing and payment transactions
All other duties as assigned by your direct supervisor, manager, director or mayor
Qualification
Required
High School graduate or equivalent
Requires one year of general clerical experience
One to two years of customer service experience
Demonstrates a minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License
Exhibits knowledge of English usage, spelling, and basic mathematical principles
Demonstrates basic knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment, and standard clerical techniques
Possesses the ability to perform mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately
Demonstrates the ability to understand, interpret, and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions
Exhibits the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments
Possesses strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrates the ability to maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments
Exhibits the ability to organize, review, and prioritize work to ensure efficiency and accuracy
Requires the ability to issue, receive, and follow oral and written instructions
