Responsibilities

Provides orientation on the federal benefits and retirement programs
Provides guidance to employees returning to and/or transferring to the Federal Government who are eligible for coverage under either FERS, FERS-RAE, FERS- FRAE, or CS-Offset, as to the provisions of each retirement system and the advantage or disadvantage in their specific situation
Calculates annuity estimates for employees to use as a basis in making the decision whether to retire and provide in-depth counseling
Monitors all retirement and federal benefits program following proposed changes to legislation and/or regulations and assures other employees on the team are kept current on changes
Provides for the delivery of pre-retirement and new hire seminars including benefits and financial education sessions to employees through external sources

Required

U.S. Citizenship required
Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service
Suitable for federal employment
Meet time in grade restrictions by the closing date of the announcement
Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication
Documentation that you present for purposes of completing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 will be verified through the DHS 'E-Verify' System
All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choice
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date
Financial disclosure statement may be required
Probationary (or trial) period may be required
You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position
Specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing at least ALL of the following: Administering Federal retirement actions by evaluating eligibility, calculating service credit, reviewing and reconciling retirement records, and coordinating retirement packages to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance
Providing technical guidance to employees on Federal benefits eligibility and enrollment, including interpreting plan provisions, resolving complex enrollment and coverage issues, and ensuring complete and accurate benefits documentation
Interpreting and applying Federal administrative laws, policies, and regulations governing retirement and benefits programs to ensure compliant program execution and effective employee advisement
