TERM LIMITED TEMPORARY (TLT) SW ReUse Planning & Development Specialist II

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has an exciting opportunity for a Planning & Development Specialist II to support the Reuse Seattle Program. This role involves providing technical assistance for reusable food service packaging and managing pilot projects to reduce waste through circular economy strategies.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Provide direct, on-site technical assistance support to businesses and event organizers on addressing their opportunities to implement reusable food service ware and address solid waste challenges through circular systems approach and zero waste strategies
Collaborate with the SPU Reuse Seattle team to design, implement, and track pilot projects, manage scope of work, and coordinate new initiatives, including FIFA World Cup reuse activations
Lead implementation of pilot program efforts for the adoption of reusable food service ware at permitted special events by recruiting events to participate, and by coordinating service and logistics details with event organizers, waste haulers, reuse service providers, and food vendors
Attend the Seattle Special Events Committee (SEC) to review event permit applications, identify reuse opportunities, and assist with event recycling and composting requirements as needed
Participate in contracting with reuse service provider(s) (e.g., event services/supplies rental) by helping draft the scope of work, review applications, interviewing, support invoicing for activations, and lead program evaluation activities

Required

Two (2) years of experience in planning and research related to land use, urban economics, human services, environmental issues, conservation; or other work directly related to City planning and development work
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Design, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, or similar fields of study (if no degree, two (2) additional years of qualifying experience is required)
Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience(s) will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability

Preferred

Documented experience coordinating Solid Waste efforts with public jurisdictions, government or non-governmental organizations and/or service providers
Experience using customer relations management (CRM) software
Program development experience involving stakeholder engagement
