Responsibilities
Providing engineering and troubleshooting assistance to the site’s unit processes, including all synthesis, refining, storage, and shipping operations to maintain and improve the safety, operability, quality, and cost
Monitor the process on an on-going basis to look for both positive and negative shifts, identify improvement opportunities. Uptime Software, Aspen Process Explorer software and statistical process control would routinely be used to do this
Leads and participate in Safety, Reliability and Quality Investigations to identify and implement actions to drive continuous improvement
Provides support for both cost and capital projects to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit. This includes scoping out, justifying, and coordinating installation of new/modified facilities
Participate in and lead Process Hazards Analyses for the assigned process
Perform experiments on the process to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit
Maintain level of technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations
Provide shift/weekend coverage for start-ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds or other non-routine needs. Travel requirements are less than 10%
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
4+ years Mechanical Engineering Experience
Minimum of 2 years of related industrial / manufacturing work experience (will consider degree relevant intern/co-op or military experience counting toward this requirement)
Knowledge of basic chemical manufacturing principles
Diagnose and solve technical problems – making data-based decisions
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills for handling customer needs and interworking amongst all channels of the organization
High degree of initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and in a timely manner
Proven ability to prioritize and manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities
Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hard hat, Nomex, eye protection, respirators, etc
Proficient in the use of computers
Preferred
Minimum of 4 years of related industrial / manufacturing work experience (Will consider relevant intern/ co-op or Military experience counting toward this requirement)
Experience in working with fixed and/or rotating equipment
Understanding to maintenance and reliability best practices including the work management process and basic materials science including material selection and properties
Familiarization in related fields such as non-destructive testing, welding, fabrication, and working with third party fabricators
Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME Piping Codes and API Codes, welding and fabrication processes and repair procedures
Background in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), data analysis techniques and statistical interpretation skills, failure analysis including preservation of evidence techniques, and engineering design standards and their application, Cost/Capital analysis and justification
Prior experience working with field personnel in operations troubleshooting activities
