Public Safety Technical Services Manager

The City of Longmont is seeking an accomplished IT leader to serve as Public Safety Technical Services Manager, overseeing the strategy, governance, and delivery of mission-critical technology that supports police, fire, emergency communications, and collaborative public safety operations. This role will provide strategic and operational leadership for Public Safety IT systems, ensuring reliability, security, and compliance.

Responsibilities

Serve as the subject matter expert for CJIS compliance, security policies, and audits
Act as the Colorado Crime Information Local Agency Security Officer (LASO)
Lead strategic IT planning aligned with departmental and citywide goals
Advise executive leadership on technology priorities, risks, and investments
Ensure 24/7 operational readiness for mission-critical systems
Oversee IT operations including systems administration, networking, application support, and project delivery
Establish policies, procedures, standards, and performance metrics for Public Safety IT
Lead, mentor, and develop technical and professional staff
Conduct IT audits, risk assessments, and security testing
Manage budgets, resource allocation, and cost controls
Coordinate CCJRA responses involving sensitive data and systems
Manage vendor selection, system implementations, and technology upgrades
Collaborate with ETS to align Public Safety needs with enterprise architecture and strategy
Ensure secure integration with regional, state, and federal law enforcement systems
Prepare executive-level reports, briefings, and recommendations
Interpret and apply complex regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements

Required

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in computer science, information systems, or a related field
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in IT leadership, systems management, project delivery, and staff supervision
Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS, NCIC/CCIC, and related access certifications
Valid Colorado Driver License

Preferred

Experience supporting Public Safety or highly regulated environments
CISSP and/or PMP certification (or active pursuit)
Proven success operating in compliance-driven, high-availability environments
