Scientist (HIV-1 and HIV-2)
GAP Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Scientist (HIV-1 and HIV-2) to support the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology within the NIAID. The role involves creating and testing HIV virus stocks, developing protocols for human macrophage studies, and conducting research on HIV infection factors.

Responsibilities
Create, test, and store HIV-1 and HIV-2 virus stocks taking into consideration established biosafety protocols
Develop and improve protocols for the processing and differentiation of primary human macrophages and their controlled infection by HIV-1 or HIV-2
Perform proteomics studies to identify novel host factors involved in the control of HIV infection
Validate newly identified host factors
Create stable cell lines expressing host restriction factors and/or knock out endogenous gene expression for the purpose of analyzing their effect on viral replication
Conduct research to study the role of nuclear pore proteins for nuclear import of HIV-1 capsids
Develop and apply molecular tools for confirming successful gene editing or inactivation
Maintain laboratory notebooks with sufficient details for reproducing results and documenting progress to support intellectual property evaluations
Maintain laboratory safety
Perform mandatory annual refresher training in lab safety and bio safety
Maintain accurate sample tracking and data management
Perform lab projects independently and assist other lab members with their tasks
Discuss and report data in peer reviewed papers and with the Federal Task Leader and scientists
Perform problem solving, call technical support to fix problems, initiate service calls or repairs, and interact with field service engineers and field application specialists for repair and optimization of laboratory equipment

Required
Provide services as a Scientist (HIV-1 and HIV-2) in support of the overall functions of the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology (LMM), Division of Intramural Research (DIR) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
Create, test, and store HIV-1 and HIV-2 virus stocks taking into consideration established biosafety protocols
Develop and improve protocols for the processing and differentiation of primary human macrophages and their controlled infection by HIV-1 or HIV-2
