ACCOUNTANT - SENIOR (HYBRID)

The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting and managing general ledger activities while supporting grant accounting and compliance with nonprofit regulations.

Responsibilities
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including restricted/unrestricted net assets
Participate in the monthly close process and ensure timely and accurate reporting
Support budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with program and development teams
Track and report on grant funding, including compliance with donor restrictions and reporting requirements
Assist with annual audit preparation and interact with external auditors
Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies
Assist with the preparation of required regulatory reports (e.g., IRS Form 990, state filings)
Provide financial analysis and support for strategic initiatives and board reporting
Mentor junior accounting staff and support cross-functional collaboration
Ability to work for various affiliates as needed
Additional responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor or Divisional Controller
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit environment
Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles (FASB, ASC 958)
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Oracle, LeaseQuery)
Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to the mission and values of the organization
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent judgment, problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, staff, supervisors, funding sources, and other social service agency personnel
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and/or other relevant computer software as these relate to job responsibilities
Preferred
Oracle Fusion experience preferred
Experience with grant accounting and tracking
Knowledge of federal and state compliance requirements for nonprofits
