Our client, PRIMUS Global Services Inc., is seeking a Senior Mainframe COBOL Developer with strong Life Insurance domain experience to support and modernize enterprise-scale mainframe systems for Guardian Life.

Responsibilities
Own end-to-end solution design, technical architecture, and impact analysis for complex mainframe systems
Design, develop, optimize, and review COBOL programs, JCL job streams, DB2 queries, and CICS transactions
Lead performance tuning efforts for batch processing, DB2 access paths, and CICS TPS optimization
Manage code promotions, release planning, and ensure compliance with audit, security, and governance standards
Drive mainframe modernization initiatives, including API enablement and DevOps pipeline adoption
Mentor and coach junior developers; enforce coding standards and best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Business Analysts, QA, Operations, and DBAs
Provide production support leadership, perform RCA for critical incidents, and implement permanent fixes
Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and governance artifacts
Stay current with industry trends and evolving mainframe technologies
Conduct daily team huddles and participate in shift handover calls as required
Qualification
Required
Life Insurance domain experience (mandatory)
Advanced programming in COBOL, including modular design, robust error handling, and performance optimization
Complex job streams in JCL, including utilities (SORT, IDCAMS) and dependency scheduling
Advanced SQL in DB2, including stored procedures, triggers, bind/package management, and performance tuning
Dataset design in VSAM, including IDCAMS scripting and backup and recovery strategies
Transaction design in CICS, including pseudo-conversational programming, resource definitions, and BMS maps
Hands-on experience with Abend-AID, Xpediter, File-AID, and job schedulers like CA7 or Control-M
Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and change management processes
Proven leadership in code reviews, mentoring, and technical governance
