Real Estate Counsel
Kilroy Realty Corporation is seeking a Counsel, Real Estate to join their in-house legal team. This role involves handling general real estate matters with a focus on transactional work including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and financings.

Responsibilities
Provide support on acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and financing transactions, including coordinating with outside counsel on review and negotiation of purchase and sale agreements, ancillary transaction documents and 1031 exchange documents
Assist with managing the due diligence process for real estate transactions, including preparation and maintenance of detailed closing checklists, calendaring critical dates, schedule and coordinate internal meetings and calls, coordinate with escrow agents, title companies, exchange accommodators, outside counsel and buyer and seller representatives
Order, track, and coordinate review of title reports, ALTA surveys, zoning reports, and other third-party due diligence materials; identify and escalate title and survey issues; and work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and resolve any issues
Coordinate the closing process for real estate transactions, including coordinating with escrow and title; reviewing and organizing closing documents; obtaining internal approvals and signatures; and managing all aspects of closing and post-closing, including creation and distribution of closing binders
Assist with drafting and reviewing various documents related to real estate transactions, including NDAs, estoppel certificates, SNDAs, lease abstracts, and other ancillary documents
Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements relating to the ownership, management, leasing, operation, and construction of the Company’s office and mixed-use real estate assets
Serve as in-house legal support for Asset Management and Construction/Development teams on property management, tenant coordination, and operations matters
Contribute to company and Legal department initiatives by assisting with the development and implementation of various projects and process improvements
Assist with special projects and other Legal department matters as necessary
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctorate degree from a top ABA accredited law school
Current member in good standing with the California bar
Minimum 2-5 years' experience working on real estate transactions at a leading law firm or as part of an in-house legal team
Knowledge of real estate transactions with a demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate the due diligence and closing processes is critical
Attention to detail and organizational skills are key, as well as the ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of requests and competing matters at any given time
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability 'think on the fly' and provide quick, sound legal advice in evolving situations
Team player with a history of working closely with business stakeholders, deal teams, paralegals and legal assistants in a collaborative environment
High level of professionalism, discretion and business judgment
Motivated, self-starter who takes pride in their work product and is willing to 'own' the work assigned to them
Willingness to learn all parts of the business and be trained to handle a diverse variety of legal matters
Preferred
Experience representing or working for institutional landlords, public companies and/or public real estate investment trusts is a plus
Knowledge of construction law and/or contract principles is a plus
