SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN
NAVWAR is seeking a Supervisory Physical Science Technician for the Radiological Monitoring Branch at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The role involves overseeing the control of radioactive materials and ensuring adherence to radiological control procedures in Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants.

Responsibilities
You will ensure proper control of radioactive material associated with Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants
You will conduct continuing surveillance of work involving radioactive materials and radiological controls associated with Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants
You will be responsible for the review of overall work operations in an assigned control area involving personnel exposure to ionizing radiation
You will serve as a radiological control representative on tasks or work groups comprised of various levels of Production Supervisors and technical code representatives
You will determine course of action required to resolve known or anticipated technical radiological problems and ensure radiological control procedures are adhered to

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
Experience providing technical guidance in understanding and applying standardized rules, procedures, and operations
Experience applying laboratory principles, methods, and techniques through inspecting, reviewing, and analyzing radiological work assignments and documents
Experience supervising the setup, operation, maintenance, and calibration of a variety of test equipment with known standards
Experiencing gathering, recording, and assembling of pertinent data and report observations and findings applying standards and guidelines to determine which samples must be further tested and referred for further evaluation
Experience overseeing and advising personnel functions regarding performance, training, development, and behavior
Experience developing recommendations to improve methods, procedures, equipment, etc., to prevent recurrence or to improve radiological control operations
