This role involves maintaining the school’s grounds and service areas, operating grounds equipment, and performing specialized landscaping tasks to ensure a safe and welcoming environment year-round.

Responsibilities
Maintaining the school’s grounds, service areas, and sidewalks, including snow and ice removal
Operating and maintaining grounds equipment
Performing weed, disease, and pest control
Completing all grounds-related duties associated with lower-level maintainer classifications
Performing specialized landscaping work such as flower garden landscaping, athletic field preparation and maintenance, and other non-routine landscaping tasks
Directing a crew of subordinate maintainers in the planting and maintenance of lawns, shrubs, trees, and flower beds
Cleaning of grounds, service areas, and sidewalks
Planting, cultivating, harvesting, and storage of vegetables
Performing other grounds tasks listed in the specification for lower level maintainers
Completing service ratings and performance appraisals
Handling disciplinary problems and staff training
Maintaining necessary supplies and equipment
Submitting requisitions when needed
Keeping records and preparing reports related to the duties
Qualification
Required
At least two (2) years of experience in landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening OR have graduated from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area
Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of specific trade or work area concerned
Knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling
Skills in manual and machine operations of trade or work area skills
Interpersonal skills
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to utilize computer software
Preferred
Maintenance experience in a school or large building
Experience performing ground care/landscape maintenance on school grounds or large facilities
Experience with specialized landscaping tasks such as flower garden landscaping, athletic field preparation and maintenance, and other non-routine landscaping functions
Experience with cleaning of school grounds/large facility service areas and sidewalks, including snow and ice removal
Experience with weed and pest management
