Regulatory Accountant, Senior Level

The Squires Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Accountant to support regulatory accounting and ratemaking activities within a regulated utility environment. This role is responsible for executing key processes related to revenue requirements and cost of service filings, while also providing accounting guidance on regulatory orders and rules issued by commissions.

Responsibilities

Maintain a strong working knowledge of regulatory accounting standards and utility ratemaking principles; monitor regulatory developments across multiple jurisdictions
Support regulatory proceedings by preparing expert testimony, participating in negotiations, and interfacing with external stakeholders
Develop pro forma ratemaking adjustments and prepare schedules and reports for regulatory filings and internal analysis
Apply jurisdictional and class allocation methodologies; prepare jurisdictional and class cost of service studies
Research and analyze regulatory and financial data; provide guidance to management on regulatory accounting and cost of service matters
Prepare responses to discovery requests and commission-directed reports in regulatory proceedings
Develop revenue requirement forecasts to support corporate planning and financial modeling
Analyze financial results and assess impacts on regulatory and jurisdictional outcomes
Maintain and update written policies and procedures; recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field (required)
Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience (required)
CPA license (or actively working towards one)
Strong accounting fundamentals are essential, with a heavy preference for candidates with prior internal or external audit experience and/or financial reporting preparation experience
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify key issues, and evaluate multiple scenarios
Proven ability to build effective working relationships across internal and external stakeholders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed to support regulatory and reporting deadlines

Preferred

Master's degree preferred
Utility industry experience preferred
Experience with PeopleSoft and/or Workiva is a plus
