Responsibilities
Lead engine design and development, including failure mode analysis for systems, subsystems, and components
Investigate power cylinder and engine block failures such as cylinder head cracks, block cracks, coolant or oil leaks, and white smoke from exhaust
Review feedback from Service, Application, and Testing teams to plan investigations and diagnostic strategies
Conduct root cause analysis, including metallographic studies, in collaboration with Testing, Quality, and Reliability teams
Support programs like VPI, VPC, PQC, PPT, and VPCR by addressing engine and power cylinder issues in the field or during product introduction
Take ownership of problem resolution from a design perspective, recommend corrective actions, and document results
Apply engineering processes like Critical Design Decisions, Design Reviews, and Validation Checklists
Use tools such as iDFMEA, FTA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, and ANSYS Workbench to make informed design decisions
Assist with concept selection, optimization, and specifications to meet customer and product goals
Work closely with SMEs and cross-functional teams to clearly communicate design intent through design review packages
Contribute to process improvements and mentor junior team members when needed
Qualification
Required
12+ years of experience in engine design, product design engineering, or powertrain systems
Strong hands-on experience in engine troubleshooting and power cylinder failure analysis
Solid understanding of failure mechanisms, root cause analysis, and corrective action development
Proven experience with product verification, validation, and quality processes
Proficiency in CAD/CAE tools, especially CREO and ANSYS Workbench
Knowledge of DFMEA, FTA, DVA, GD&T, and structured design methodologies
Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills
Ability to work onsite and effectively engage with multidisciplinary engineering teams
