Responsibilities

Coordinate and collaborate with the Office of School Performance to develop and implement plans to support student achievement and academic growth
Supervise, lead, and develop all personnel within the Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability Office as aligned with the district vision
Lead curriculum development and instructional programs and services (PreK-12) for the school system
Evaluate and continuously improve the effectiveness of the Curriculum and Instruction division by operationalizing the division’s strategic plan
Align local, state, and federal budgets to the district’s strategic curriculum/instructional priorities. Communicate the budget and curriculum priorities with the Board of Education
Remain current on North Carolina Department of Public Instruction policies/processes and North Carolina General Assembly legislation that impacts curriculum and assistance
Submit recommendations concerning the budget for the instructional program within Johnston County Public Schools
Coordinate the structure and sequence of the instructional program between elementary, middle, and high school
Plan and coordinate accreditation activities
Provide leadership in facilitating achievement of the system’s mission and goals for professional learning for teachers and student achievement
Facilitate the continuous improvement of instructional and curriculum development services
Investigate, pursue, and administer grants to support curriculum and instructional services throughout the system
Design processes for collaborating and partnering between the school system, state and local agencies, and the community
Conduct program evaluation for all curriculum and service areas. Prepare and maintain files, records, and reports in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines
Attend all Board of Education meetings and serve as staff liaison at the Superintendent’s discretion
Perform other duties as necessary or requested to improve or enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of programs, operations, and processes in the system
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Required

Minimum of five years of supervisory/administrative/management experience in school administration, including knowledge of academic and accountability testing
Must possess a NC certificate in Administration or Curriculum
Must have experience as a school principal
Must hold established track record for improving academic outcomes for students and eliminating disparities in achievement, opportunities and services for students
Must possess a North Carolina driver's license at time of hire
Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations governing North Carolina public schools
Considerable skill in utilizing technology as a tool for efficiency, productivity, and curriculum delivery, professional development, and content creation
Knowledgeable of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) and the federal role in public education to include exceptional children and 504 programs
Knowledgeable of NCStar school improvement process tool
Knowledgeable of principles, procedures, and practices of public-school administration
Knowledgeable of personnel and management principles, practices and strategies as they relate to the administration of school support, policy development, employee relations, and related services
Ability to maintain compliance with confidentiality requirements and ethical guidelines for local state and federal rules, policies, and statutes
Ability to research program documents and narrative materials, and to compile reports from research
Ability to review documents for accuracy of information, grammar, style, punctuation, and vocabulary
Ability to maintain complex schedules, records, and files
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to develop and modify work procedures, methods, and processes to improve efficiency
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with school officials, elected officials, and the general public
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments

Preferred

Doctoral degree in Education Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction preferred
Three (3) to five (5) years central leadership experience or any equivalent preferred
