Responsibilities
Prepares, reviews, and/or approves financial transactions
Initiates and/or serves as a liaison to BRS/ERSO and the campus Controller's office for CDSS matters related to purchasing, reimbursement and payroll activities
Reviews and approves payments and reimbursements submitted via BearBuy and ERSO intranet, and approves invoice vouchers in BearBuy
Reviews and approves bluCard transactions in BFS
Coordinates and implements budgeting/planning/forecasting for CDSS units as assigned
Maintains college chart of accounts, other data management tools, and related business procedures in alignment with college and campus guidelines to ensure the proper financial and budgetary record-keeping in the commitments database, and to produce clear, and accessible financial reports
Oversees, assists, and approves entertainment and travel reimbursements. Advises on UC financial policy as appropriate
Documents procedures for financial activities
Responsible for providing analytical support for complex budget, financial, and resource projects, working directly with the Divisional Finance Leader and internal unit managers/constituents. Independently gathers information as needed to perform analysis
Applies professional concepts to perform analytical studies, summary reports, and background materials for campus or department administrative officers and managers for financial and/or resource plans, including annual resource allocation approaches, trended future requirements, operating forecasts, sources and uses, etc
Utilizes financial planning and reporting systems, including CalPlanning and CalAnswers
Monitors unit, center, and program expenditures, ensuring adherence to budget and appropriate uses of restricted funds. Works with unit managers and analysts to take timely corrective action when needed
Supports CDSS units in performing unit-level finance work, including COA maintenance and fiscal close processes
Supports the Dean's Office as needed with budget proposals for donor-funded initiatives, along with other financial matters related to the philanthropic gifts and endeavors
Maintains sound and comprehensive understanding of business and financial policy and campus fund allocation guidelines
Ensures that all financial transactions are executed in accordance with university policy, specific contract/grant requirements if applicable, endowment restrictions, and generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP)
Ensures that the appropriate internal controls are addressed, maintained, and strengthened to protect University resources
Engages in opportunities for training, workshops, seminars, pertinent to the position
Qualification
Required
Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems
Strong attention to detail
Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments
Proven ability to effectively present moderate to complex finance information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
Proven ability in using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports
Proven interpersonal skills, strong service orientation, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail
Proven ability to organize work and change priorities to achieve timely progress on multiple projects, distribute effort among the projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity
Ability to function as a member of a team
Preferred
Familiarity with UC policies and procedures pertaining to budget and finance
Knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems (BearBuy, BFS, CalPlanning, CalAnswers Financial)
Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources
